How many units of botox do I need? How much does it cost?

This is a tricky question and the answer depends on a few different factors:
- Whether you are male or female. Males generally reqiure higher doses.
- The strength of the muscle being targeted. A strong frown will require higher doses.
- The amount of paralysis you wish to achieve. A frozen face will require higher doses.
- Whether you have developed any antibodies to Botox or Dysport. If you have developed antibodies, you will need higher doses to achieve the same effect. This is not recommended as you will eventually develop immunity to botulinum toxin. There is less risk of this happening with Xeomin.

Lets recap the equivalent doses of the 3 brands of botulinum toxin:
1 unit of Botox = 1 unit of Xeomin = 2.5 units of Dysport.

Cost
In general, injectors charge less for Dysport and slightly higher for Botox and Xeomin. Some injectors charge by area, whilst some charge per unit.

You can often get a discount when treating more than 1 area. Here is a useful video about what you can expect to pay for Botox (in US dollars).

When priced per unit, remember to multiply the unit price of Dysport by 2.5 times in order to compare it with Botox and Xeomin. Most clinics offer a discount when using high doses of botulinum toxin. The general price ranges are shown below.

$3 to $6 per unit for Dysport
$9 to $18 per unit for Botox.
$9 to $18 per unit for Xeomin.

When purchasing heavily discounted Groupon vouchers, please remember that these are not permitted under Australia's TGA laws. As this is in unregulated territory, there is a high chance that the botox from these deals is watered down or expired.
